Under Watercolours VisitsINDONESIA

UNDERWATERCOLOURS INDONESIA BUNAKEN OFFICESince I first posted this page, I've been back to Indonesia three more times. It has quickly become one of my favorite dive destinations.

My first five-week tour of Indonesia, took me to Bali, Sulawesi, Java and Lombok. I toured the entire island of Bali above water and below, watched the sunrise from the top of Mount Bromo in Java, shopped in Jakarta and hiked up Borobudur. I toured Lombok and scuba dived around the Gili Islands, then headed up to Manado where I spent two weeks diving Bunaken and Lembeh Straight with the wonderful Thalassa Dive Center from the Hotel Santika.

I viewed the rice terraces and rafted the rivers, visited the temples, went to an Indonesian wedding and a Balinese cremation. I experienced many of the traditional dances and ceremonies as well as the modern day hot spots like Jaya Pub and Discoteque 66. I watched the surfers at Uluwatu and teased the monkeys at the temple there.

I ate a lot of satay, rice and noodles and enjoyed the company of the friendly local people. I bought so many souvenirs that we had to hire a cargo company to ship them all home. I made many new friends and I couldn't wait to go back.

My second trip was a three week tour back to the Hotel Santika in Manado, then back to Bali to board the Peter Hughes Komodo Dancer to dive the reefs in the Komodo area of Indonesia.

Trip number three was to Wakatobi Dive Resort to shoot an interactive tour of this new destination that was the hot spot to visit for any underwater photographer.

Trip number four took me to Bali to celebrate another birthday. The next day we boarded the Kararu's new boat Voyager for its maiden voyage from Maumere, Flores through the Banda Sea to Sorong, Irian Jaya.

Obviously, Bali is addicting.
